The Arduino IDE and Peguino Visuino installation instructions
#1
Developing your own program is very easy. To install the needed tools follow the instructions below!

First you need the standard Arduino IDE (IDE = Integrated Development Environment) and then  the visual graphical design tool called Peguino Visuino. Before you can use Visuino install the Arduino IDE to compile the programs and transfer them into the Peguino Uno brick. After installing the Arduino IDE (see instructions below) you can start writing programs - or just go further with installations and install Visuino - to have the power tool to develop cool and sophisticated projects.

STEP 1: Install the Arduino IDE

Go to the Arduino website and download (the Windows Installer - not the Windows app!) the Arduino IDE at: https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software

The Peguino Uno Brick can use different types of boards, for example the Arduino Uno board, the Arduino Nano (and pin-compatible boards) or the ESP8266 or the ESP32 boards from Espressif. It might be the case that your Peguino Uno Brick has a integrated ESP32 board – for that reason you need to add some minor software to the Arduuino IDE.
To figure out which type of board is in your Arduino Uno Brick look at the pictures here: https://www.peguino.com/boards

STEP 2: Install the Espressif ESP additions into the Arduino IDE

Click on File / Preferences and paste the following code line into the input field "Additional Boards Manager Urls":

Code:
https://dl.espressif.com/dl/package_esp32_index.json,http://arduino.esp8266.com/stable/package_esp8266com_index.json

and click "ok". Now click: Tools / Board: / Boards Manager and type into the search filter input field "esp".
A list appears in the window; there you select "esp32 by Espressif Systems" and click "Install" to download and install the Espressif tools to use the ESP8266 and ESP32 boards for your Peguino projects.

Now select at Tools / Board the DOIT ESP32 DEVKIT V1 for the actual Peguino Uno Brick.
If you plug in the board to your computer with a USB cable the Arduino IDE can now communicate with the Peguino Uno Brick board via a (virtual) COM port. Check Tools / Port / COM5 (or the given COM-Port Number eg. COM8 on your computer). If this is greyed out your board is not connected to your PC or you probably need to install a certain driver.

[Under normal circumstances Windows recognized the board and installs the needed drivers automatically![/b] If it fails check the USB cable (some are only wired to charge phones without data connectors!) or install the drivers manually:]

Installing drivers manually:
There exist three different types of USB to serial chips for ESP boards: FTDI, Silicon Labs and WinChipHead are the manufacturers. At the board you can see a tiny black chip, close to the plug. If it contains "SILABS CP2102" install the CP21x driver from Silicon Labs.
Download it from here: https://www.silabs.com/products/developm...cp-drivers
In case you have a FTDI Chip, download it from here: https://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
If you have a CH340/341 Chip you download the software fro here: https://translate.google.co.uk/translate...R_ZIP.html

Note: If the error message "Failed to connect to ESP32: Timed out waiting for packet header" appears while upload from the Arduino IDE - press and hold the "BOOT" button on the board while uploading.

STEP 3: Install Visuino

Download and install the newest version of Peguino Visuino here: https://www.peguino.com/visuino

Visuino needs to be registered to enable the full functionality. To receive your License simply register at https://www.peguino.com/visuino

After registering you get a License code by email. You need to put this License code into Visuino when you start it the first time or go to "Help / Enter registration key".
